Derived From The Cannabis Plant, Is CBD Safe And Legal?
CBD is a naturally occurring compound found in the hemp plant. This plant is also known as Cannabis Sativa L. CBD, short for Cannabidol, is made using the leaves of the hemp plant and sometimes the stalk.
There are three different types of natural CBD; CBD Isolate, Full-Spectrum CBD and Broad Spectrum CBD. CBD Isolate is the purest form of these. All of the three products in the Vitabiotics Brains CBD range are in the pure isolate form. Some companies also market synthetic CBD though this may not be clear from looking at the packaging.
Is CBD Legal?
Put simply, yes CBD is legal. Although CBD is extracted from the hemp plant, it shouldn’t ever be confused with cannabis oil or medical cannabis.
In the UK, cannabis is a controlled drug. However, CBD is not a controlled substance and is legal to buy. It is also legal to take CBD supplements.
CBD is a non-psychoactive compound. This is unlike other compounds found in the hemp plant, which are psychoactive, and may induce the ‘high’ known to come from cannabis.
Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), is a psychoactive compound and is not allowed in CBD products.
Is CBD Addictive?
As Vitabiotics Brains CBD is guaranteed THC free*, it is not addictive and won’t induce the ‘high’ associated with cannabis.
In The World Health Organisation’s June 2018 Critical Review, they stated that to date, there is no evidence of pure CBD ever resulting in abuse or dependence of any sort. Plus, CBD is not currently listed on the World Anti-Doping Agency’s Prohibited List meaning it is permitted to be used in sport and wouldn’t show up in a drugs test.
THC, the psychoactive compound, could show up in a drug test however.
For peace of mind, Vitabiotics Brains CBD is extracted from the hemp plant in a highly controlled environment to give you the purest cannabidiol (CBD). It is also tested and validated and only released following rigorous quality specifications.
Added to this, everyone has an endocannabinoid system (ECS) within their body. This means CBD isn’t foreign to our body. In fact, CBD can actually exist alongside the cannabinoids that the body produces by itself.
Do keep in mind though that CBD is not suitable for women who are pregnant, breastfeeding, or for anyone under the age of 18. You should also consult with your GP or pharmacist before taking CBD if you are under medical supervision, have epilepsy, suffer from food allergies, or are allergic to any of the ingredients.
How Much CBD Should You Take And How Should It Be Taken?
If you have never tried CBD, start with 7 drops taken twice a day, and work your way up to 28 drops a day (1ml), if you wish. However, don’t take more than 70 milligrams (mg) of CBD per day.
The effects of CBD on any given person can be influenced by how it’s taken.
For maximum absorption, it’s best taking Vitabiotics Brains CBD sublingually. This means dropping the CBD liquid under the tongue, and letting it sit there for a minute to allow it to fully absorb.
Taking CBD sublingually allows it to get absorbed by your salivary glands and go straight into your bloodstream. This is rather than it being absorbed by the digestive system where it is broken down and metabolised.
